Title: state mini meet
Post by: shonko on Tuesday, 03 February, 2009, 04:09:32 PM
I have noticed there are a few QLD members (althought there is some distance between some of us) and was wondering if there is any interest in getting together for a drive, or lunch, or dinner, or any other legal suggestion????

Also there is a "Dubs by the Pub" on the Sunshine Coast organised by the VW Club 15 Februrary, is anyone interested in meeting there? I am in Chapel Hill BNE, but would drive to the Sunshine Coast to meet up. I don't know if we can enter our cars but if there is any interest I will find out.

Might have more luck if you have a Eureka meet on these forums, I don't know how many members have a Mini in their garage as well.

 ;) :P

Hi Cameron,

that sounds great. How many of "you's" normally get together? We should arrange something before easter.........I have recently become the "social events coordinator and transport manager" for my 11yo son, but can lock something in outside his social and sport commitments.

Let me know what you think.

Hi Everyone,
Ted and I are all for a mini meet! the "dubs at the pub"  15 feb. sounds great! If it is the one i'm thinking of, we went there last year. It is held at the Ettamoga Pub on the Bruce highway. Ted says we can enter our cars, but perhaps a check with the vw club would be in order if we show up in any numbers. We thouroughly enjoyed it last year and there is lots of vw stuff for sale as well as more beetles than you've ever seen in one place!  let us know what  you want to do. cheers vonkje

Sorry guys, we can't make it. My sons tryouts for soccer have the 1st booking, and since the other transporter is working, I am THE CHOSEN ONE, through a careful selection process.  ::)

Well, as a "dubs by the pub/pie" the vw meet was pretty cool....lots and lots of great cars. the BAD LITTLE BUG-GERS who put on the show are to be comended for an outstanding meet. As a qld mini meet it was pretty dismal....one lonely yellow eureka and Ed (aka resinator)showing up, better late than never. Which was pretty good cause we got lots of attention and there are many many phones and cameras with a pic of Teds car. The best was yet to come! The lonely yellow 'reek won the best kit car catagory!!!! good on ya Ted! Your very first car show and you win! Sorry everyone missed your big moment he! he! he! Cheers vonkje

Congratulations Ted.
Nice to hear the Eurekas were popular.
As a Queensland Reek owner I feel a bit slack not making the effort to be there. Just started a new buisness and with all the bad economy news things are a bit tight.
Don't give up on a QLD state mini meet though, keep an update of your next local show. I know a decent one is on at Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast in a month or two.

Yep on ya Ted you're No.1 in QLD

I remember some 5 or 6 years ago in SA when I was the only Reek, then James got on board then there were two. The next year there were three, then 5, then 7, till at the last meet we had 14 Reeks at a VDub show.

Keep up the good work

Congratulations Ted.

My apologies to you and Eddie for not getting there when I sort of suggested we have a meet in the first place :-[.....my son had soccer tryouts in the morning as previously stated and he got a bit of heat stroke from running around in the sun for nearly 2 hrs. The last thing he needed was a hour plus drive to the sunshine coast to walk around in the sun.

See you at the next one.......my Sundays are now free. ;D

Shonko

The 15th of November is great (but then any date would do).

Now all we have to do is find somewhere to meet.  Pinkies says there are no car shows on that date http://www.pinky.com.au/qldnov2009.htm . So any idea's for a venue or do we just find a place to go.

Oh bytheway were are you located Mr. Shonko?  I forget who I've talked to on the phone. :-[

I am in Chapel Hill (unless your from the tax office, then I am in the Cayman Islands)........so the 15th of NOV is locked in.

Rod you are absolutely more than welcome....the more the merrier....and so is anyone else in the BNE area reading this post.

I suggest we first decide where we want to go, I am happy with anything Sth of Noosa, Nth of Coolangatta and east of Toowoomba. A good format that worked well with the boys and girls in SA was meet at a predetermined place a servo or carpark or whatever, then drive (about an hour is good or two hours with a stop) to a destination for lunch (country pub or similar) then a drive back often a different route to the one used in the morning but not always.

So put your thinking caps on chaps!!! ;D

Shonko

If we can post up "area" we're coming from we can pick a generally central meeting place.  I'm catching up with our Gympie "Eureka Crazy" :P on the way back from Rockhampton on Saturday night.  We're having a Queensland State Mini Mini Meet.  So I'll see if he wants in.

So put your thinking caps on chaps!!! ;DHats are on!!!

Date:   15th of November Sunday (but also leaving Saturday the 14th available if it suits)

Location:   Bribie Island

Southerners meet at the double BP's on the Bruce just North of Brisbane at a reasonable time.

You Northerners meet at a place to be decided.

These are just some suggestions from Shonko and me.  Trying for Saturday as it may suit others who couldn't come along on the Sunday (Ted check your calender) but it won't suit some (Shonko check Shonko1.1 sports fixtures for a bye on that weekend).

Fellow Qlders -

Look forward to meeting you soon.

My reeks not going to be on the road for a while yet, but I'm more than happy to mini-meet on 15 Nov.
Meeting at the BPs on Bruce  & toddling to Bribie's ok by me if you don't mind a Hilux for a camera car.

I think Shonko was hanging around Mildura for most of this week, so might be a day or so before our Qld Coordinator can coordinate.

Ciao

Maxx

Welcome Maxx,

Would love to see you there.  Great to have you on board.

That's what we need, a dedicated photographer free of charge (jk).

I like the way you have volenteered Shonko as our supreem leader ;D (another jk).

We (our family of 6) are planning on camping on or near Bribie Island on the Saturday and Sunday and use it as a base camp for the mini-meet.  Shonko said a common meeting place like the BP's may suit most people so hope thats okay.

I have never done a meet before so I'll let others suggest what we get up to on the day.
