that sure is true... it would be a lot easier if all the states were united in the set of rules but nothing we can do.
when the time comes i will have to look into talking to an engineer, really wanted to stay clear as much as possible from them... from what i hear they are very expensive

hi trev.
I am currently building a brand new vw motor from scratch.
may I sugest (if you stay with air cooled mtr)to buy the ( American HOT. VWS)
magasine and look at the C.B.performance parts page.
if you can get hold of the september 2009 adition it has all the kit aplications from
105 hp to 200hp.and thats with no turbo no efi.To giv you a idear of pricing.
105hp. $3076.85. (American)
200hp. $4164.80. (American)
Or you can go on line to www.cbperformance.com.au.
If you have a motor thats already working in the car you can buy these parts indervigally
until you have them all and start building.
my motor is a bees wisker under 2.4ltr.
AS41 dual relief super case T.I. (high roof and made stronger behind no.3where satanded casings
are week (example 2ltr.mtr.are 76mm crank these casings are made to take 86mm crank and a 94mm bore)
I get exited just talking about it
As I stated these are BRAND NEW they are 10.klos.heavyer than standed.
c.b. wedged matched port heads and manifolds with chev stainles valves 37x42.full flowed or bigger you choose
The rest of the aplacation is up to you and you budget.
I chose the 86mm crank because the experts told me vws dont lik high revs or hill climbs
 the crank and cam (fk8) gives me peek hp.and torqu at 5200rpm.
BENEFITS
 no changes of engine mounts exept better ones
bolts strait in.no adapter plates to gearbox. (exept a stronger clutch@presurplate)
no pluming.
And cops still see a vw motr in it if pulled over (les chance of defect)

i found a air flow v.w 1600 had enough grunt for 800kg body but being in a couple of rotarys at canberra that was nothing to sneeze at tmerivale... Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

To import from the states is very good atm due to the USD/AUD.  For a complete bolt-on sysytem it may work out half the price of an Aussie rebuild.  But it'll be a boring project, pull motor out of box, put in car, go very fast (jk).
Staying with the dakdak formate is probably a good move.  It would be a great sleeper at the lights.

thanks Gunna, yeah wouldnt mind a bit of a sleeper. when my old man had his reek he reckons nearly every time he went out he would get pulled over just so the boys in blue could have a gork. they cant do nothing when its running all vw gear... hopefully
