Title: Apology regarding Access Post by: Philinsa on Monday, 05 December, 2011, 03:51:38 PM Sorry for the problem with access. All my fault at this end.
We are getting a stupid amount of bogus registrations and the number is increasing, (over 6,000 to date) Most of it seems to be generated through “gmail†accounts. We are talking 50 to 80 a day in my junk mail. I’d had enough and so tried putting a ban on “gmail†accounts to prevent the idiots getting to the rego stage. Well it worked, but it affected 17 existing members too. Now if I can get them to change their e-mail ……., but I don’t think that will be happening too soon. This was not made apparent till tonight, so I’ve now removed the ban (at least now I know). So you should be all good. Regards Philinsa Webmaster PECCoA Title: Re: Apology regarding Access Post by: Philinsa on Saturday, 10 December, 2011, 04:52:48 PM Interestingly, there has been over 11,000 attempts to access the forum from the beginning of August this year.

Have you considered using either a) http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2932 or b) http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2182 Some of my clients have been running SMF Forums and either of those had taken fake signups from 100's to 1-2 Maximum per day :) Title: Re: Apology regarding Access Post by: Philinsa on Monday, 19 December, 2011, 02:06:55 PM Thanks Dennis-B

I just testing the Signup and it's working ok... You can delete the Request for User "TestingSignup" :) Hopefully this will mean your Christmas/New Year shall be filled with many, many fewer fake signup requests. Title: Re: Apology regarding Access Post by: Philinsa on Monday, 19 December, 2011, 02:32:21 PM Woo Hoo
To all the g-mail users currently on the Forum, thanks for your understanding & patience. You should be saved from having to change anything. 8) Title: Re: Apology regarding Access Post by: The Metalsmith on Tuesday, 20 December, 2011, 08:03:10 AM I love it.

Title: Re: Apology regarding Access Post by: Philinsa on Tuesday, 20 December, 2011, 12:07:06 PM Well interestingly, we are up to 7,446 regos :evl:
There were 4 waiting for me tonight, not sure if Webgoat knocked any orf. Could be working, but I'll give it a few more days. :-X Trouble was, I had 88 notifications tonight in my junk mail (that's where they get sent these days). Also, for those that look. I cleaned out some members that have never been on since registering. Hence the drop in actual members. AV A Good One :D Title: Re: Apology regarding Access Post by: Philinsa on Friday, 23 December, 2011, 10:33:52 AM Well the first Mod did not work.
Un-installed it last night and up-loaded the other option. Well I'm happy to say that that has stopped it dead. Shame I can't wind back the member numbers to reflect a more realistic figure. Ah well. It will be interesting to get a real registration through. It's going to be difficult. Title: Re: Apology regarding Access Post by: Dennis_B on Friday, 23 December, 2011, 10:53:30 AM Pretended to register and the New Mod doesn't seem so bad.. in some ways its easier than the first way to Register...

The first Mod did not do much, so I removed that and put up the second Mod. That did the trick. It's B***dy quiet now, luvly ;D Thanks for that, I owe you a bunch of flowers  Title: Re: Apology regarding Access Post by: WYKED1 on Monday, 13 February, 2012, 12:54:41 AM O.M.G.. ;D
