Hi
Just came in from the Eureka Operating theatre and have found i have ticked off the last item on my construction list so ihave finished the welding and grinding so next stop powder coating.
The picture below is of back half of the frame showing the side braces to stop the flexing of the back half of the car.
I will be taking better pictures when i get it out of the theatre and on to the trailer.
Should post those on Thursday.
Andrew
PS Looking for a set of roof lift rams. Call Andrew 0411194586

what are billet part's.
Basically custom parts made from a section of material (often aluminium, but could be steel, magnesium, or titanium [typically a light metal]) called a billet. A billet is just the terminology used to describe a block of said metal. It's usually either a round bar or rectangular block, but could be any shape really. It depends on what's going to be made from it, that usually determins the shape of the billet sourced.
It should be noted that it's not very often made from 100% aluminium, or what ever, it's usually an alloy.
Then the billet is machined to the required shape and specifications.
The benefits of making something this way is that you know it's going to be a better quality part, and therefore stronger, than something cast in the same shape.
All the shiny parts you see (including the light surrounds, rear bumper, let alone in the engine bay, are made from 'billet'.

Well said Cyc -baby.
I'll expand a bit on your info though.

It should be noted that it's not very often made from 100% aluminium, or what ever, it's usually an alloy.
Nearly all aluminium is alloyed with another metal. 4000, 5000 and 6000 series alum are the most common types. The 10,000 series is pure. Billet alloys are usually 5000 or 6000 series, the higher 6K (6400 and above) being aircraft quality.

The rear bumper is an alloy extrusion, not billet. It's been carefully sanded to give it that "billet" look, which is also a popular trick.
This guys car is mind blowing, though. He's definately got too much time on his hands!

You're probably right about the bumper Simon, though I wouldn't be surprised. The guy who owns the Billet Bug is retired, and turns/mills all his own stuff in his shed (what a shed that must be!!
), so he has plenty of time. It's actually known as the Billet Bug from memory, and has a ton of trophies. And that's an older photo, in an article in Unique Cars, her talks about the Billet Bug, and had more resent photos.
