Title: Eureka in print.....
Post by: mrtomt on Saturday, 20 March, 2010, 03:38:34 AM
Does anyone have old (or new) magazine articles they could re-post here...?

I remember years ago there was a great article in ( I think Fast-4s & Rotaries ) on a silver-blue Eureka that had been put together really nicely... I think from memory it was 'ford-ice-blue' and had a rotary engine. The article had some great shots... Does anyone still have this...

Any other articles or printed ads would be appreciated....

Thanks

Tom

I have a stack of old car magazines with features on the Purvis Eureka. Not not sure about posting up the articles in case it steps over the copyright lines.

I was thinking of starting a topic on Eurekas in Print, but just listing what Magazine, how but the article, colour/b&w, that sort of thing.

G'day Tom,

I (and others) have a library of magazines with Reek stories and adverts and bits and pieces which has cost me a quite few sheckles to accumulate over the years and I'm not in any hurry to put them up on this forum sorry.  That said, I usually bring the lot with me to our annual PECCA Meets for interested members to peruse (over a few ales ;D ) so if you make it to Coffs Harbour later this year you can check them out then if you wish.

The Reek you are asking about from Fast 4's and Rotaries is currently owned by Morris here in Victoria and is still running a 13B rotary albeit not the same 13B :-\ and it has different wheels, different mirrors, different roof, different rear suspension, new rear wing, ... but it's still the same color and is still the same Reek  :)  O0

Actually, we traced it through VicRoads to verify it's history and it is definitely THE one.

Also, it is the one that features in the video on this forum that Cyco posted recently tearing around the go-kart track in Mildura.

PP.

Thanks for the response guys....

I thought that was the same car....!!!!

I appreciate the concerns re sharing images, but I'll also say this.... I used to have a big box of Eureka stuff - magazines, photos, brochures etc... & it's all been lost along the way. I wish I had taken the time to scan all of that stuff as I would have now had digital backups of it all to share. just a thought.....

But yes, I do see where you are coming from...

If anyone does have a spare issue of the Fast-4s & Rotarys mag they would like to part with please let me know. I'd just love to read the article & see the photos again. Don't think unfortunately I'll be getting to Coffs... ; (

Cheers,

Tom

Hmm, don't think I have that particular magazine. I have seen a few articles posted about the net, but typically they're about Nova's or Stirlings. I think if someone were to do it for their own site, it may be ok, but hosting/posting said articles may bring bad juju to the club.

I'm looking at that exact article.
A reek on the cover was the reason I started buying Fast Fours back in '88. I have every issue from No. 1. Unfortunately I can't seem to scan the article at the moment. I'll keep trying. If necessary I'll photocopy it and send it to you Tom.

I actually didn't know Morris owned the car though. That's bloody excellent! I wondered what happened to that reek.

Thanks Guys,

As it happens & have kindly received a copy of the article via email...!

Very interesting read.

I had a look through my eureka images & did find a few older photos of the car at various times... There is another VIC car that is almost the same. Very tidy two-tone silver and gunmetal car withtinted headlight covers.

From what I have seen they would be two of the nicest eurekas out there so far. I'm trying to get a good idea of how well these cars can be finished off. Does anyone know of any other cars that are finished to this level..

Thanks,

Tom

Well, it was Kym's car, but he sold it. I think the new owner still posts on here.

Un-necessary Dave,
Tom has been sent the article electronically. I know how to use the scanner on my PC, thanks mate. I'm not the total beginner I used to be. At the moment my scanner is not interested though. Thanks anyway.

The two tone silver reek Tom may be referring too may the one that was T-Boned by the tram in Melbourne some years ago. There were some very nice photos of it floating around. Had a Subi motor though, and the dark headlight covers.
I do have pics of this car and after the accident also.
