Title: Has Anyone Seen These Before ?
Post by: WYKED1 on Friday, 15 June, 2012, 12:17:35 PM
G/Day Everyone.

I just received this email from a Gentleman who thought we might be interested in some pic's and drawings that he has had since about 1993/1994
I have attached his email for you to read and we owe him a great deal of thanks for bringing these to our attention.
For the record all credits for these belong to Rohan.
I will post pics one at a time just to keep it simple for me to do Ha Ha

hi James,

I rented one of the factory units at 26 Stephen Rd Dandenong.
Eureka was at 23 Stephen Rd.

I'm an automotive illustrator and did a few jobs for the guy who took over the place from Colleen Long for a while before he disappeared and a notice appeared on the door saying he wasn't authorized to sell franchises.
His goal was to use Eurekas as rental cars in holiday destinations like the Gold Coast.

He was trying other stuff too like installing T tops in cars that hadn't had them previously.  He seemed to do at least one Subaru engine conversion.

Jobs he asked me to do were a cutaway drawing of a Eureka with a Subaru engine, a revised front end look and this hovercraft pic.

I'm not sure that I still have copies of the other drawings or not, but as we're moving and rebuilding a lot is deep in storage right now.

regards Rohan
ps. this is some time in 93/94

You know, I wonder if this is where the rumor of a Eureka topped boat came from locally.  Hmm.

Richard.

Wish you had asked before putting these pics up on any other site
He has given me permission to put here on our site with credit's
you had better remove them from Nova site and if photo bucket is seen by everyone remove them from there also

Will do James. Mind you, if the bots (googlebot, yahoobot, etc) have been through here since you posted the photos up in the first place, the photos have already propagated through the net. Don't forget we get visitors from around the world, not just Oz or the UK. This forum is read by more than 50 people. If you don't want them anywhere else on the net, I suggest we nerf this entire discussion.

If I wanted the pics on another web site or even on our photobucket I would have put them there for all to see but I placed them on the club member only access area for a reason and that's were they should have stayed without any one interfering with them without permission.
When someone posts anything unless its not within club acceptable parameters it should be left alone unless we have permission from the author to do such which we might like to do so with their information.
In this case I have had contact from said person to put them here at this present time so unless this changes this is where they will stay.
So if you had not jumped the gun and put them somewhere they should not have been in the first place we would not have to as you state "nerf this entire discussion" and deprive our members of seeing these very rare pics

James

James:
To be fair to Richard at no stage in your initial post was it stated that the pictures were for "PECCA Member Use Viewing Only".
I can also understand that you may have felt that uploading to the "General Discussion" Section with is only Member Viewable might have indicated it was meant for private usage only, but it certainly was never explicitly stated.
I myself didn't even realise that the "General Discussions" Forum was Members Only.
I can understand perfectly why he uploaded them elsewhere for others to see on the Nova Forum etc because they were very unique & interesting.
Even now after re-reading your initial post it makes no reference to keeping the pictures private, either from yourself or the original source.

Although I can't be one to guess or assume peoples state of mind, but surely some 15-20 year old pictures of Eureka's in various states of "extended development" aren't a piece with national security implications and "Top Secret" Level Clearances.
I would have done exactly the same thing Richard had done if I was so inclined at the time.

Regards
Heath

 Hi all
I joined this club because I thought all these cars are special and the club has a lot to offer.                                                                                                                                                                                                        If things are put on this site for members only and then whoever/whenever comes along and decides they want to show the world those things -
what the hell am I paying memmbership for and when does the feeling special happen if it has been shared with so many others ?
If I put pics up of my car on the forum for paid memmbers to look at, I will be pissed if some one from any where in the world can have a free gawk at them.
If I rememmber isn't that where the club came from (a free website).
I thought we had progressed from that or have we already gone full circle like some people of that time
 wanted anyway.
Just my ($40.00 which I paid last wk) worth.

I joined the club because I felt the unique history & nature of the Purvis Eureka was worth preserving.
I pay my dues every year because of the people of the club sharing a common purpose and goal.

I don't feel less special in seeing the images James posted whether 1 person has seen them or 1 million have seen them.
I however totally agree if you post pictures of your car on the site for paid members to look at, and then it's shared.... different story.
(Although I still think when you initially post them you should state clearly in the post "For PECCA Members Only".)

I think these images were different. They are historical significant and transcend just the Members. They show an evolution of the Eureka/Nova/Sterling Design.
They all share a similar DNA, and should be celebrated by all and sundry across all groups because there aren't enough of us to be picky!!!

Ok everyone, just chill.

I'll admit it's kinda my fault. I've been on the forums since these new ones started, and for several years on the old forums. Basically since before they decided to restrict access to members only. So I don't think about having extra access, there's basically nothing to remind me. So when James posted that topic, I simply took it to be for everyone. And who wouldn't be interested in a 'reek that was going to be turned into a hovercraft than the Nova mob. I thought it was a logical thing to do.

I had to log out of the forums (which for some reason Firefox wouldn't let me, so I had to fire up the plague ridden Internet Explorer), so I could see what was, and what wasn't viewable for non-members. Which includes the 'General Forums'.

So for posting those photos elsewhere, and uploading them on the Eureka Car Club PhotoBucket account, which I thought was free access, I'm sorry.

I will point out that I included that Rohan was credited on the Nova Forums, and also on the sub-folder in the PhotoBucket account.

I will add that this is the internet. Nothing ever remains locked away, not even in the DARPA network in the US. Information will work its way free. If you don't want other people seeing your data, keep it on a computer not linked to the net. That's the only way to protect data.

I could go on and say more, but I feel that will only inflame the current situation.

 Hi Dennis B
you use the words  (should be- and there aren't enough of us to be picky).
Isn't that why we have a committee (to decide what's best for the club).
If we keep things for the club members only won't that encourage new members to join
and without sounding like a James Bond movie I dont want to lable my things (For Your Eyes Only) ?

Ok Guy's

like Richard say's let's chill.
First thing thankyou Richard for removing these pic's until this is sorted out.
Unfortunately these pic's are not mine and with that present's a problem of how far the gentleman is willing to let everyone see them.
He sent them to me as President of this club and I asked him if I could post them on our club web site with his permission and this was done.
My mistake like perhaps Dennis stated is I did not inform anyone they were not to proceed and post them on other site's etc.
With that being said though when anything is posted on our web site I believe that does not entitle anyone including myself to copy, move or alter these posts unless like I stated before they breach our parameters of what is acceptable to our member's and that is on our web page when joining or we have the permission from the posting member to do so for the benefit of the member's.

So with that I now am aware that if I post anything I will make sure it is simply under stood before it gets to this stage.

Believe me if I need computer help from all you genius I will be asking for it as I have in the past and also into the future.

Richard or Dennis the said gentleman has sent me another drawing that is too big to put on the way I have put the other pic's up is it ok to email it to one of you to shrink it so it too can be viewed by the members.
Richard I will also talk to this gentleman and see what we can arrange so you can post them for everyone as Dennis pointed out they are truly historical

Thankyou to Richard, Dennis and Ken for your input it has been a learning curve for all.

regards

James

Here's the image James sent me. All I needed to do was resave it from a .tiff file to a .jpg file. .tiff files are a high resolution format, so the file is a larger image when it comes to storage. It was a 1.2mg .tiff file, and now it's a 157kb .jpg file.

But it's an amazing drawing. That's for sure!

 ;D
